Be the change you want to see in the world -
The quote was a suggestion made by Mahatma Gandhi - I would like to echo his sentiment and add that there is so much that could use some changing in today’s world. From my perspective, based on my experiences I witness a lot of unnecessary suffering - millions of people are depressed, angry, living with fear and guilt, falling ill with preventable diseases, and repeating behaviors and habits that will often result in an early grave. Is there a solution to these dire circumstances? I believe there is and it starts with one simple thing: BETTER CHOICES - We have been blessed with the gift of free will and it is up to us to create our own reality - So, If we want happiness we have to think about it, go after it and do those things that will invite it into our lives - If want good health we need to make smarter food choices - we need to get up off the couch and away from the desk and do some exercising - we need to manage our stress using different, more holistic and effective ways then what were using now. If you’re using vices like cigarettes, alcohol, food, prescription/street drugs to relieve stress then you will certainly one day suffer the consequences. Our way of life and poor choices have led us all into a dire situation that needs immediate attention - Cancer and heart disease are running rampant, diabetes and obesity are fast on the rise, drug and alcohol use and abuse are wreaking havoc on many lives, the planet and all of it’s occupants are growing more and more sick and our very existence may be under a serious threat. I might not be telling you anything you don’t already know but let me ask you a question:
What are we going to do about it?
My advice to anyone that is willing to try and make some big changes in your life is to take it slow and gradually increase the intensity - For example if your diet is horrible then try to eat three healthy meals spread out over a week - have water instead of soda with two or three meals during that same week - If you don’t exercise start by walking for twenty minutes a few times a week and increase the time and effort as you see fit, find a workout partner or hire a personal trainer - Do you have an unhealthy vice? Try replacing it once or twice a week with a positive alternative then try to to increase the number by one or two the next week.
Here are a few of my favorite motivating techniques that will help you while on your journey of change -1. Try to find a partner - there’s nothing better than moral support and it’s a lot harder to not follow through once you’ve made a commitment with someone 2. Dedicate your daily goals to someone you love (it’s much more rewarding to do something for someone else than it is for yourself) 3. Subscribe to a “mind over matter” attitude - tell yourself you can do anything you put your mind to - no matter how big of challenge BELIEVE that you can do it.
Collectively we can make our World a better place - If we change ourselves we change the World one person at a time - Be that change - GO FOR IT! I challenge you.
